Sacred Spaces 305 – We get to share the same stage!
12 September 2011
Recently I was watching one of my latest live DVDS: Biffy Clyro at Wembley.
WOW!!! I love that band and watching them live (once in Belgium) and now recently on my TV, epic! They really are talented. I could imagine God smiling at them. (I have a broad imagination).
HOWEVER while I watched I noticed the second guitarist on stage. Biffy Clyro is a 3 piece band.
YET for their live shows; they have an extra guitarist to help deliver a fuller and more potent sound!
He didn’t get much exposure on the DVD. He is not in the band photo shoots or even on the cd sleeve of their albums. I’m sure he may get a mention on the album credits.
But it really is not about him. It’s about Biffy Clyro.
And this got me thinking; it is the same with us and God.
It’s never been about us! It’s about God.
In His mercy and grace we get to “share the stage” with Him. But all glory and the focus is on Him. We can’t save the world. But He can and does.
Once, the disciples got it wrong in John 9: 1 – 3:
“1 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.”
They thought it was about this man. And they wanted to point out to his sin?
They got it wrong!
However Jesus spoke of that man born blind in this way: ‘So that the glory of God might be displayed in his life’ and then He restored his sight.
The focus was on God and what He does.
Jesus said it another way too in Matthew 5: 16:
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Do people glorify God because of our good deeds? Do we let to focus go on God and not ourselves?
Some don’t read the bible; they read your life.
The challenge is to live out Colossians 3: 17 “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
God is doing something in the world and we get to be part of that.
Like the second guitarist on the stage with Biffy Clyro, who has a role to play, so do we have a role to play…but do make sure…that people know:
It’s all about Him.
