Sacred Spaces 495– (Imagine) a godless wedding
13 June 2016
My beautiful friends Darren and Kerri got married on Saturday. It was super cool. And one could feel, God was there. The way the preacher conducted the service and spoke about God’s role and love that is essential to a marriage, one could feel as if heaven paused at agreed with their marriage. It was amazing.
He shared from Colossians 3: 12 – 14
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”
I thought of how love is God’s idea. How the scripture teaches us beautiful selfless ways of loving one another. I then thought of those who don’t believe or love God – how do they go about weddings?
Imagine a wedding without God’s way of love…
And in a sense those who don’t believe, they opt out of being married. And refer to their loved one as their partner. As if that title entitles them to an “exit clause” – if things don’t work out… we’ll leave…
A sad view – on love… 😦
I’m no expert. I’m still learning a lot. But go ahead and read through this included Colossians passage.
Isn’t that just a beautiful way of living and loving?
And before we even start… we are told… we are chosen by God. And we are dearly loved.
I like the imagery in the word “clothe yourself.” There is action we need to do. We need to “get dressed” on a daily basis. I choose to love God’s way…
