Sacred Spaces 536 – Hiding in His Word

This morning, I had this thought: I just want to sit here with God’s word.

It’s not like I didn’t want to go outside and deal with life.
I really, for a moment, just sensed His presence in a more real way.

Because sometimes, we sift through the scriptures like it’s a text book.

But then there are times… when we can

Soak in the pages.
Stay awhile among the words.
Pray and read and listen.
Believe in the mystery. (Scripture is not just printed text.)

It’s God breathed!
It’s sharper than double edged sword, cutting to the marrow!

The cynical will be dubious – but the child of God will approach with wonder.
The cynical will put up walls – but the child of God will realise, the Word is not an ordinary library book.

We have asked over the ages; how do we get to know God?

He left us with a great starting place: His scriptures.

Sacred Spaces 522 – Same old, same old – familiar verses…

I chuckled to myself recently; realizing that so often with these Sacred Spaces, I use the “same old same old” scriptures and that even my themes (topics) seem to be recurring…

I write about the likes of:
– creation
– the nearness of God
– the practical “ness” of the gospel
– not treating Christianity like a market place

and I use:

– Psalm 46: 10
– Acts 17: 28
– Romans 1: 20
– Psalm 118: 24
– John 15

So, I wondered about that.

Maybe there is comfort in the familiarity?
Maybe it’s the simple truth, that God doesn’t change?
Maybe the topics that I cover, are the basics… and people long to go back to basics? Because maybe following Jesus has got so cluttered lately?
Maybe it’s because creation is still the “loudest” (and quietest) sermon?

I’d like to think it’s one of those.

BUT ALSO… I know that I have not yet arrived…IMG_20170122_090603_837.jpg
I still have lots to discover in my faith journey.

And there are still incredible verses (treasures – How is that for Christianeze?) to be found in God’s word.
When last have you and I delved into His word?

(definition of delve: “reach inside a receptacle and search for something.”)

So what do you think about this whole same old same old thing?

Sacred Spaces 470– One liners and soundtrack

21 July 2015

Recently, I feel like God has been whispering little lines of truth and love to me.  And it’s been so cool.
Ordinary me, gets to hear from our Beautiful God.

So, I have decided to listen to podcasts (downloadable sermons) again as I drive from one place to another.  Been listening to Rob Bell and Richard Rohr.  Been so inspired and encouraged.  (Whisper one from God)

With 3 weeks till I get married, I am super excited and just so thankful God brought Catherine into my life.  There are moments, where the love just feels so tangible.  (Hard to explain, but it’s a beautiful moment.)

Then I have had some lyrics in my head recently from Jon Foreman:

“Come surrender your hidden scars
Leave your weapons where they are
You’ve been hiding, but I know your wounded heart
And you don’t know how beautiful you are”

Isn’t that just moving and inviting?  Perhaps these lyrics… are what you need to hear this week?

Listen to the song here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MHhMXtRmKg

And how about these lyrics:

“Your love is enough
You’re my harbour in this lonely storm
Your love
Here in my maker’s arms
I find my soul
Here in my maker’s arms
I’m finally home
Here in my maker’s arms
Come home
I’m coming home”

Seriously, these little whispers fill my heart with such love and peace.  How about you?  What do they do for you?

And then lately, I have been enticed (interesting choice of word placed here) by His scripture.  There is something about those ancient and holy words that still resonate in these times.

I saw this on my friend, Rob’s Facebook page; and my spirit was strangely reminded and encouraged:

I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart;
I will glorify your name forever.
For great is your love toward me;
You have delivered me from the depths. (Psalm 86:12-13)

Then I was convicted… to help the youth here, in Secunda delve and dive into scripture a whole lot more.
Because HE is so real and so beautiful!

And then I like these posters from the International house of Prayer:

So to all my faithful readers and my new readers, have an incredible week!  Walk and dance in rhythm with our Creator.
